Victoria Gregory ‘attended’ her first City game at Wembley for the 1976 League Cup Final against Newcastle. As it was when her mum was pregnant with her she really can wear the badge “Lifelong Blue”!

Now, having relocated to America, Victoria is Chair of the Official Supporters Branch in Chicago and a volunteer at City Soccer in the Community at Haas Park.  Here is her Blue Blogger piece that was posted on the MCFC website before the match against Newcastle.

So Everton continue their reign as our bogey team and whilst we were kind of expecting it, it was still very tough to watch.  The “Typical City” moniker returned to briefly haunt us, yet again.

But let’s take a moment and get some perspective: we’ve lost four Premier League matches this season, we’re sitting in second place, and we’re off to Wembley for the FA Cup semi-final.  Not too shabby considering.  Don’t forget, it’s not all that long ago that we were losing away at Preston North End and Lincoln City!

The calls for Mancini’s head are particularly irksome.  Since he joined us we’ve won the FA Cup, the Premier League title, the Community Shield and we’ve spent all season sitting firmly in the top two.  Sheikh Mansour, as we understand it, had a five-year plan for us to win the title, so Roberto and the boys delivered ahead of schedule.

He says he didn’t get all the summer signings he wanted and he’s struggling with a squad hindered by injuries.  We were missing Kompany, Aguero, Yaya, Micah, Maicon and Rodwell against Everton.  Zabaleta is our consummate war horse, but even he is starting to look a little battle weary.  Let’s hope Micah is able to return for the derby game, as he hopes.

We’ve come a long way, and there is much more to come, but we can’t let last year’s taste of victory turn us sour.  The future is bright and blue, and I don’t know about you but I’d much rather finish second with a significant points difference from first place than have the title snatched from our hands in injury time, when we’ve already started celebrating winning it.  Our red neighbours may have more trophies, but they’ll never be able to take that beautiful moment away from us.

And so onto Newcastle; The Magpies didn’t fare well against us in December when we came away from St James’ Park with 3 goals and 3 points.  Fingers crossed that we get Kompany, Yaya and Aguero back to revitalize us and send the Toon Army back up to the north-east with tails between their legs.

Manchester City went on to beat Newcastle 4-0 on 30 March 2013
