Manchester City v Southampton: Build-up, Stats & Predictions

City go into this game…
  • Needing to win in order to keep the pressure on their title contenders, as they lie 4 points off the top with 2 games in hand
  • As favourites to win, having lost only 1 Premier League game at home this season
  • Having scored 4 goals and conceded 1 in their last 2 games
  • Hoping that Sergio Aguero will make his return to the squad, after being out through injury for nearly a month
  • After drawing 1-1 with Arsenal at the weekend in a game of two halves.
What happened last time…

The last time City played Southampton was back in December, when they drew 1-1 at St Mary’s – here are some highlights to refresh your memory!

Team prediction…

I predict 5 changes to the side that played against Arsenal at the weekend, I think that it’ll be Kolarov for Clichy, Garcia for Fernandinho, Milner for Navas, Jovetic for Silva and Negredo for Dzeko.

I don’t think Sergio will feature in the starting 11, but it’s likely that he’ll come on as a sub later in the game to warm up for the game against Liverpool next week.

Who to look out for…

The Saints have plenty of players on form after their 4-0 win over Newcastle at the weekend, such as Rickie Lambert and Jay Rodriguez, but Adam Lallana has been Southampton’s brightest spark this season.

The England international has 9 goals and 6 assists in 32 Premier League games this season (with his latest goal being a 25-yard screamer against Newcastle) so he is definitely the one to look out for…

Score prediction…

Despite Southampton being in good form, I expect nothing less than a win from the Blues. With it being at home, and City needing to win to keep up the pressure on league leaders Liverpool, I’m going to go with 3-0 to City.
