Manchester City 2014/15 Season – 10 Memorable Moments
After City said goodbye to the 2014/15 season with a 2-0 win over Southampton on Sunday, we take a look back at 10 memorable moments from the campaign!
NOTE: These are in no particular order – and we apologize if we’ve missed any out!
3-2 win over Bayern Munich
In typical City fashion, the Blues found themselves needing to recover after going 2-1 down to a 10-man Bayern side at half time (despite taking the lead early on), but just as all hope looked lost – Sergio Aguero completed his hattrick late on to secure all 3 points and rescue City’s Champions League dreams.
Frank Lampard scores against Chelsea
The moment which nobody saw coming and thought would ever happen – Frank Lampard scores against the team he spent over a decade at to put the score level at the Etihad.
Lionel Messi’s penalty is saved
If there was one man who you’d put your money on to score a penalty it would probably be Lionel Messi – one of football’s greatest ever players – but on this day Joe Hart had other ideas and pulled off a dramatic last-minute save to keep City’s Champions League hopes alive.
Sergio Aguero wins the Golden Boot
For the first time in his career, the Argentine is awarded the Premier League Golden Boot after a total of 26 goals in the 2014/15 Season.
City beat United at the Etihad
Sergio Aguero’s goal was enough to secure 4 successive derby wins over United in the Premier League, but even though that game didn’t feature as much drama as you’d usually expect – is there such a thing as a disappointing derby win? 😉
After his last ever Premier League game on Sunday, Frank Lampard received a farewell gift from the club and a standing ovation from the crowd (not to mention a few bumps and bruises after being thrown around by his teammates!)
Joe Hart’s fingertip save to deny Federico Fernandez’s header was surely one of the best ever seen in the Premier League – despite not even making it on the BBC’s ‘Save of the Season’ list!
City qualify for the last 16 of the Champions League
After losing the first 4 games in the group stage, City’s chances of qualifying for the last 16 looked virtually impossible, but a 25-yard strike from Samir Nasri and a late second from Pablo Zabaleta in Rome was just about enough to put the Blues through for the second successive season.
Sergio rescues a point at QPR
After losing at home to CSKA Moscow earlier in the week, City were looking to bounce back against Harry Redknapp’s side in the Premier League, but things didn’t quite go as planned and Sergio Aguero had to score 2 equalizers in order to save the Blues from another disappointment.
Joe Hart wins the Golden Glove
After another superb season at Manchester City, Joe Hart wins the Premier League Golden Glove for the fourth time in his career with a total of 14 clean sheets.
