World Cup Qualifiers: City stars shine during internationals
Three City players were in the same game as Argentina defeated Chile 1-0. Lionel Messi put a decisive penalty past City keeper Claudio Bravo in the 16th minute to secure the win. Centre back Nicolas Otamendi played the full game for Argentina, while striker Sergio Aguero played 58 minutes. The result lifts Argentina to third in their qualifying group.
Brazil cemented their place at the top of the group with a 4-1 win over Uruguay, with Fernandinho coming on after 82 minutes.
Leroy Sane came on as a late sub for Germany in their 4-1 win over Azerbaijan.
David Silva moved up to joint-fourth on Spain’s all-time leading goalscorer list after he opened the scoring in La Roja’s 4-1 win over Israel on Friday.
Raheem Sterling, Joe Hart and John Stones played important roles during England’s 2-0 victory over Lithuania on Sunday, with Sterling particularly impressing after providing an assist for Jermain Defoe.
Away from the pitch, Gabriel Jesus and Ilkay Gundogan have been stateside for the announcement of City’s summer tour while the likes of Willy Caballero, Bacary Sagna, Aleix Garcia and Nolito have found some time to relax.
