MCFC Supporters Club has more PRIDE than any other team!
This year, Manchester City Supporters Club showed huge support for LGBT rights in football. One campaign, in particular, was the Football v Homophobia campaign which has just finished its UK road show this week.
As part of the Supporters Club’s ongoing support, we created a video that featured many of our branches from around the world! The response we received from it has been overwhelming. We had San Francisco, Australia, Canada, Greece, Jersey and UK clubs sending in their video clips!
The video, made by MSM who look after this website, was shown at half time during the City v Spurs game on Sunday 14th February 2016 at the Etihad Stadium. For the time that it played out, thousands of fans turned their attention to it and watched. It was a special moment that the Supporters Club and supporters of the Football v Homophobia campaign won’t be forgetting any time soon.
If you haven’t seen it, here it is:
Commenting on the video, Louise Englefield (Director at Pride Sports) said it was “ground-breaking in terms of action from a recognised supporters group in the Premier League” and that she “wasn’t aware of another instance of an official supporters group of a pro club taking such a strong stand on the inclusion of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in the game.”
MCFC Supporters Club’s General Secretary, Kevin Parker, also gave his thoughts on this year’s support: “Once again Manchester City FC has shown its commitment to diversity. The on-going relationship with all supporters groups, especially Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual (LGB) communities continues to grow and we look forward to working with them, Pride Sports and other groups in the future. Credit also to all our Supporters Branches who were only too willing to support Football v Homophobia Month”
James Delargy, Creative Director at MSM said, “Maximum Social Marketing believes in equality in the office, one the pitch and in all walks of life. Our social media support, video and web work, along with the filming and organising we did with MCFC helped the message get to the City and Spurs fans on the day. We uploaded the video to our Facebook channels as we received more video from branches. This meant the video views, the website coverage and the social media, plus the audience at The Etihad got over 200,000 views. Our Manchester passion, the Canal Street Blues Supporters Club and MCWFC Supporters Club were hugely helpful in us putting it all together. Our thanks to John Browne and Sarah Bland for their huge support.”
Manchester City Supporters Club is proud to have backed the campaign this year and would like to thank all those who helped make this possible – let’s do the same again next season!
